I Believe…

  • I believe that every person has the ability to express themselves musically.
  • I believe that there are as many non-musical benefits to playing music as there are musical ones.
  • I believe music is a social art and not meant to be primarily a solitary activity.
  • I believe it is very important to foster a well-rounded musicianship, developing functional skills, knowledge of, and skills in, many different styles of music, and performance skills.
  • I believe that the arts can influence my students with a message of beauty, of value, and of truth.
  • I believe that our musical work can influence a hurting world, for the world is yearning for beauty;  for the opportunity for creative self-expression; for the joy of expressing innermost thoughts and feelings in a positive way; for original, creative thinking.
  • I believe that I must continuously learn, to grow as a teacher, and as a musician to fulfill my mission as a Teacher of Music.
  • I believe that God uses music to speak to us and through us.
  • I believe that every life benefits from music.

“Where words fail, music speaks.” – Hans Christian Andersen
